What is Mixed Dementia?
As the name suggests, mixed dementia is where more than one type of dementia is present.
1 in 10 patients who have dementia have mixed dementia.
The most common mix is Alzheimer’s with Vascular dementia and dementia with Lewy Body.
It is impossible through current medicine to identify the various different diseases which may impact a person. Generally a single diagnosis will take place based on which symptoms are more related to which type of dementia.
Symptoms
It is difficult to identify specific symptoms associated with dementia and as such a doctor may diagnose based on which symptoms are most prominent and in turn which type of dementia those symptoms relate to. It may take some time to diagnose more than one type of dementia based on how symptoms develop and progress.
Diagnosis
